After almost 20 years of good business and devoted customers, the local Digital World has opened a new branch on the north side of Fredericton. The new store, called Evergreen Traders, opened in December.
Owner of Digital World, Trevor Rivett, initially wanted to open a new store in the Regent Mall. But with no space, he decided to move to the north side, where the store location would benefit the “40% of existing customers” that buy from Digital World.
“It just made sense to come here,” said Rivett.
Along with the new location came a new name that gave the store hope of receiving unique items to trade and pawn. Where Digital World dealt mostly with electronics like computers, TVs, and cell phones, Evergreen Traders will have a more open and general concept. The shop accepts anything from vintage band t-shirts, to rare books, dolls, collectibles and specialty knives. The name also hints about the “greener” things people will be doing if they buy and sell used items with them.
“We like the Evergreen name because we like to kind of emphasize the idea that it’s sort of green to recycle used goods instead of consuming new goods,” said Rivett.
Like Digital World, the store has its own Facebook page where it already has four reviews. The latest review was posted by Darren Smith on Jan. 19.
“Friendly and knowledgeable staff, good value when selling or trading for store credit and ample parking. Well worth the trip. Keep up the great work,” said Smith. Smith’s review, along with the three others, gave the store a five-star rating.
Business hasn’t been doing as well as Rivett had hoped, but it’s just the beginning for the store. A few regular customers from Digital World have tried shopping at the new location, and it looks like some of them will become a regular to this location as well.
Brandon Lord is a regular Digital World customer who has recently started shopping at Evergreen Traders with his girlfriend. Lord says he likes the new store and regularly visits there with his girlfriend “at least twice a week.” Recently, Lord made a big purchase from the store.
“We got a 50 inch TV for 300 bucks and it looks pretty beautiful in our bedroom,” said Lord.
Since Evergreen Traders is a pawn shop, it comes as no surprise that their highest selling item is jewelry. But along with the usual gold, silver, and diamonds that any regular pawn shop would sell, Evergreen Traders also sells jewelry that’s handmade by locals. So locals will not only be able to pawn and trade at the shop, but also have their own created items on display.
