I was born and raised in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, a retirement town of 1200 people where bingo is a life style and the ocean is the constant smell. My first year in university I had classes where other students talked about their “small” graduation class, 300 or 400 people. My grade 12 class had 30 people. My whole high school didn’t have 300 people in total.
I always knew I wanted to do journalism from the time I was little. I liked to talk, like really talk. Then I was introduced to fashion magazines. It was all shoes, bags, this seasons trend, the new color for spring, what prints were in and which were gone.
The health nurse in my high school was the one to introduce me to St.Thomas. Her brother had done journalism here and loved it. I applied that fall, was accepted and have never looked back.
